Any person or company engaged in the hauling of wastewater (either septic or grease) to the Jefferson County sanitary sewer system, must have a current valid certificate of competency from the Jefferson County Health Department www.jcdh.org and a license from the Alabama Onsite Wastewater Board. The discharge of hauled wastewater to the sanitary sewer system will not be permitted without such documentation of credentials.

Waste disposal ticket costs:

Septage and grease disposal at designated Jefferson County Treatment Plants is permitted utilizing the same book of tickets at a cost of $466.35 per book of twenty. Please note that the dumping of septage is calculated at a rate of 250 gallons per ticket, with the rate of grease being at 200 gallons per ticket.

Waste disposal tickets may be obtained at the Jefferson County Environmental Services Department Permitting & Inspections Office located in the Courthouse at 716 Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North, Suite A300, Birmingham, Alabama 35203. Office hours for disposal ticket purchases are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, except holidays. Please call 205-325-5801 for additional information.

Locations for discharge:

The County reserves the right to refuse any hauled wastewater when it will interfere with the effective operation of the system and /or treatment plant. The County may collect samples of each load of hauled wastewater to ensure compliance with guidelines and /or require the hauler to provide an analysis of the wastewater of any load prior to discharge.

Grease trap waste shall not be combined with septic tank waste and transported to the disposal site as part of a mixed load.
